It is PROM season! {Hair and Makeup Tips}
Posted on April 24, 2013
It is officially prom season! I am starting to see the postings here and there of girls in their colorful dresses and guys dressed to the nines in their suave tuxes. It is such an exciting time of year. Counting the days down until prom and then the summer! Who will you go with? Where will you eat? Limo? So many questions to answer so I thought I would help the ladies out a bit and share some of my go to tips for hair and makeup. One less thing to search for right!
For my senior sessions I have an amazing stylist, Katherine. She just knows how to make each girl look AMAZING! She doesn’t use a ton of makeup, but she knows how to put it on right. You can find an article in last year’s {twelve} Magazine with some great tips! Check out page 25.
{By the way, I cannot wait for this year’s edition. So many gorgeous sessions to showcase and if you get in before August your session could make the cut!}
Today I wanted to share with you my Hair and Makeup Pinterest Board!
There are so many great resources out there and Pinterest is the greatest way to save things all in one place. If you are not following KBP on Pinterest yet you should! Not only do you get to keep up with what we are doing, we also pin great outfits and inspiration for your session!
Here are a few of my newest and favorite pins that I think are great for Prom.
Another great pin is this one that shows the different ways to put on eyeliner to change or highlight the shape and size of your eyes. Love it!
Then add some color. There are a few great tutorials on adding subtle color or going all out!
Head over to the board and check out the other pins. So many fun ideas!
Don’t forget about the hair! Here are a few of my favorite hair inspirations, but there are MANY more over on the board.
I hope you find some inspiration and maybe even get inspired to try something fun for your senior session with KBP!
Some of my favorite makeup from past senior sessions came from Savannah, Emily and Lauren:)

The Eyes Have It
Ruby Red Lips

The shoot was based around a super fun candy buffet{jars and candy provided by Sweet Spot Candy} and Class of 2014 chalkboard. {Check out the details on creating our chalkboard HERE}. I wanted to create a celebration for the girls, because it is so exciting to be entering into your senior year! Candy, balloons, and loads of pampering makes for a fabulous day!

All of our candy came fro Sweet Spot Candy Shop! We LOVE Sweet Spot! We are going to be giving away some yummy candy very soon so stay tuned in the next few weeks for how you can win some of your own Sweet Spot candy. A few more of my amazing team!

This day could not have happened without these girls of course, but there were also many other wonderful people who made it all work.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to:
My very supportive husband, who puts up with all my crazy ideas and plans {and right now a “tiny” bit of 9 month pregnant mood swings!}
My talented and inspiring sister who came down to help me out. She also had to put up with a few of those mood swings…haha. I couldn’t have pulled off this day without her there! She is also a photographer! Check her out HERE.
Katherine and Tiffany of Karina’s Salon. These two ladies made the models look gorgeous!
C Street Restaurant who allowed us to use their patio space.
Sweet Spot Candy for the yummy candy and jars for our candy buffet.
I hope you are excited to see more of these girls over the next few weeks! Chat with them or contact me to book your senior session!
I cannot wait to hear from you and plan and amazing unique session for you!

Chalkboard Art{Photo Session Prop ~ How To}
Posted on April 8, 2013
I have always been drawn to chalkboard art{ha, no pun intended}. If you remember the big announcement earlier in the year I used a chalkboard background there too. This time I decided it would be a great backdrop prop for our Class of 2014 Spokesmodel shoot.
The theme, CANDY! Lots of pastels which is a perfect match with the chalk colors!
So, I researched all the tips I could about creating a chalkboard sign, found an awesome board at Homegoods and made a plan! I thought that since I put so much time into figuring this out it would be something other’s might want to know about or see. I took pictures along the way and will share what I learned in the process.
Let me know if you decide to try it out!
Supplies:
Chalkboard
All sizes of chalk: thick and thin
A cup of water
An old rag
Q-tips
Ruler
If you are using a new chalkboard you need to “season” it. This prevents ghosting, which is when the words you write still remain almost as a shadow even after you have erased them. To season your board simply take a large piece of chalk and rub it on its side all over the board. Cover the whole things and make sure you rub it in well.
Here is my board.

Once you have done this you can wipe it off with a wet rag. Do not use paper towels because they leave a residue:(

Let your board dry and then its time to set up your design.
I had planned out a design on paper with a grid, but at the last minute decided to go in a different direction. I still created a grid on my board to help me with balancing everything out though. You could pre-draw your design on paper with a grid and that will make it much easier to re-create your design on the board.
You just draw one square at a time!
The grid is very useful to measure correct distance and proportion in your design. Here is my board with the grid and the start of my border.

I then began to sketch in my design. TIP: Wet your chalk or your board. The chalk goes on kind of faded, but it dries nice and crisp and bright!
I just dipped my chalk in a cup of water as I was working.
{this is where I found great info for my project AND this tip!}
Don’t worry about smudges and mistake, you can just wipe them away with your rag or q-tips!
Adding details and completed base design!

Then I went back in with the rag and q-tips to wash away the grid and smudges. This took a few times to go over before it was clean to my preference. I do think it shouldn’t and probably wouldn’t be perfect, but that is the beauty of chalk boards:)

Once it was too my liking I started adding color. Because I hadn’t really planned my design out ahead of time{or because I am indecisive and changed it} this step took me a bit longer trying to decide where to put color.
I just kept adding things then would take a step back and see if it needed more.

The finished product! I cannot wait to share more pics of how we used this prop in our Class of 2014 Spokesmodel Shoot. For a sneak peek check out Facebook. Make sure to LIKE our page too so you can keep up with all that is going on with KBP! Stay tuned!

Chat and Snap Winter 2013 {A Collaborative Shoot Part II}
Posted on January 22, 2013
If you missed the first post on Chat and Snap you can check it out HERE! A quick recap…Studio FBJ, Cate Gravatt Photography and myself collaborated to create a day of talking shop and refining our craft. We planned and implemented the very first Chat and Snap, choosing locations, models, props and a theme. We started the day with professional hair and makeup for the models. Joy, Cate and I styled their outfits and after a pizza lunch we headed out to the location. I cannot say enough about how wonderful these girls were. We were so lucky to have such gorgeous girls to photograph! You can follow our day on Instagram by checking out #chatandsnap and while you are there you can follow me too, @kristiebradleyphotography. Instagram is a great way to see sneak peeks, behind the scenes and even some of my daily happenings.
Lets start with Lauren! A Lee-Davis Senior, she is also a previous student of mine(I teach photography and graphic art).
Lauren is the sweetest, kindest girl and to have her in front of my camera was pure joy!

She is the perfect combination of cute and beautiful! This next set is my favorite of her images:)

Next up is Atlee High School Senior, Katie. She is such a natural beauty! I personally think she looks a bit like Hilary Swank(you do have a celebrity look alike Katie!).
Just flawless!

Cierra! A blast from the past, Cierra was a previous student of mine when I taught 7th grade art! Now a Patrick Henry High School Senior, she has grown into such a stunning young lady. I mean, her hair, her eyes, her smile…just gorgeous. She carries herself with such confidence and being around her is so much fun! I am so in awe of the young lady she has become!

And Kirsten, our second Lee-Davis High School model, is part of the KBP Spokesmodel team. Check out her themed {inspired} session. She is so incredibly stunning and a natural in front of the camera. I never get over photographing her! If you see her around ask her about the 2014 Spokesmodel program for your chance at an opportunity to have an amazing experience with KBP with themed photo shoots and your dream senior session!

My favorite of her. Breathtaking!

See! Aren’t they stunning girls!
Don’t forget we are looking to fill our 2014 Spokesmodel team. Applications will be accepted until January 31st!

Chat and Snap Winter 2013 {A Collaborative Shoot Part I}
Posted on January 20, 2013
About a month ago another local photographer and I met up to talk photography. We hadn’t met in person before, but had wanted to attend a conference together and it didn’t work out. We decided that since we couldn’t make it, we would set up our own shoot and time to “chat” about all things photography! Thus, Chat and Snap was born! Joy, of Studio FBJ and Cate of Cate Gravatt Photography and I joined forces to plan a winter themed shoot with touches of Valentine’s Day.
Locations were scouted, props were purchased, models were found and we were excited!
We are hoping to gather other photographers and have future Chap and Snap events, so keep following us so you don’t miss it!
Check out the amazing and beautiful girls we got to photograph! Part II will be coming soon with individual shots of these beauties!

Look how much fun photo sessions are! You can have your chance at shoots like this by applying to be a Spokesmodel for KBP. Apply HERE by January 31st!!
Limited spots available.
